Goldilocks and the Fall Design House color palette

Amy is obsessed with color.  And she's really, really good at it.

Amy can have conversations about the precise color at the bottom of a glass of iced tea where the tea and water begin to mix (true story).

She can tell you why there are 45 different shades of off-white in the paint store, how they're different, and when and why you would use one over another.

She can also tell you when all the colors in the paint store just won't cut it for the specific light and furnishings in a room.  Enter Amy's custom color for September....a color she's calling Mocha Ya-Ya.

The Lucketts Design House...September progress

Here are a few scenes from The Design House today.

Everyone was chipping in....painting, sorting, rearranging, and unpacking.   Several rooms are getting fresh coats of paint.

And poor Henry...there were gallons upon gallons of new paint everywhere.

April 5, 6 & 7 Design House - getting it to all come together

We took a few pictures of the Design House process for the next April event (April 5, 6 & 7) throughout the month for you.

There is always so much going on all month to get ready for the three day event.  The house sort of looks like a tornado hit up until the very end....boxes everywhere, trying out new colors and layouts for the rooms, "smalls" tucked everywhere.

A step above

A few weeks ago, we had a delivery of ladders.

We all started scratching our heads wondering how Suzanne & Amy would incorporate them in to their spaces.

Here are a few ways we used ladders in last month's Design House and a few other inspiring images from other talented designers.

Paint-spiration for the March Design House

We're calling this post paint-spiration....that can mean paint inspiration or paint perspiration.

This month felt a little like the latter.

We're getting ready for our March 1,2 & 3 Design House event which is our first Design House in a couple of months.  Not that the February event didn't count, but that was Groundhog Sale, and the house is allowed to look....sale-ish.....still beautiful, but with a little bit of everything here and there.

In March, we're back to pulling together an entirely new show house with new furniture, new accessories, and new PAINT!  Only a funny thing happened this month...

Building vignettes for the Holiday Open House

Last week, we were mostly building the bones of each room; adding furniture and large accessories.

Amy had already had her pow-wow with Henry and the rooms were painted, and it was decided what each room would "be".

Now it's time to add more layers to each room and complete a few vignettes.  Come read a little more about how we do it...

Setting the stage - painting, furniture, alpacas & donuts?

Here's my third post in a series featuring how we're getting our Design House all ready for the Holiday Open House on November 2, 3 & 4.
So I left off my last post talking about pricing owls, angels, and more owls.  Now the October Design House is over and we can actually move the plans from Amy's head to actual paint on the walls and furniture in the rooms....

Christmas is really 12 months a year

I thought it might be fun to give everybody who enjoys our insane Holiday Open House, a little insight in to how it all goes down.

First off, I feel I need to mention that this year will be our absolute shortest amount of time for our most labor intensive, time consuming Design House of the year.

Playing with scale

We're playing with large scale items today.

Many times you'd think that large scale furniture or art would eat up a room; but actually the opposite happens.  Large scale pieces can make a room seem cozier, create an anchor or focal point for the room, and add tons of storage.

Here are a few favorites.

Antique dress form love

{1} Dress form holding scarf at our Design House.
We're totally in love with dress forms today and every day.

We get vintage dress forms in the shop, but even for us, the really old ones have just been getting more and more difficult to find.  Usually when we do have them, we're sure to post them on our website for Fresh Off the Wagon, since they're highly sought after by our customers.

We love looking at all the variations over time; you can really find some beautiful pieces with great age and patina.  We use them at the shop to display scarves and wraps, jewelry, and they just plain look cool in a room by themselves - so we do that too!

Where can you go when you want a vintage dress form fix?

2011 Design House Review

It's hard to believe 2011 is closing in on us.  We can't believe that in 12 short months, we've held our biggest annual sale {Groundhog Sale} in February, organized and held the Lucketts Spring Market on our property  since the community center was closed this year, and held 10 awesome Design House Events, each showcasing great new furniture and items from some of our newest sources!

Here are some Design House pictures to remind us how far we've come in the past year...

Industrial design is still a hot trend.  Throughout the year, Suzanne & Amy used lots of metal in the Design House, everything from metal bins {great for storage}, oversize clocks, locker cabinets, and awesome industrial light fixtures.

Lighting came in all shapes any styles this year, from the industrial style in the earlier pictures, to chandeliers dripping with crystals in the spring and summer to natural burlap textures in the fall, and shiny blues for the holidays.

For the holidays, Amy & Suzanne used teal to add a punch of color.  Owls were popular accessories this year and our white and gold "room" on the porch made quite a statement in December.

Other trends featured in the Design House this year, included yellow with charcoal grey, decorating with shades of light blue & tans, equestrian style, and the comeback of the starburst mirror.

New shipments of cabinets, beds, tables, chairs, and accessories, kept the rooms of the Design House fresh and everyone wondering what new looks were in the next room.

Thanks for taking a look at some of the Lucketts Store Design House looks of 2011. There are a few more pictures posted on our website, and of course, we have several folders on our Facebook pages {here} and {here} for you to look through.  Thank you for supporting the 2011 Design House!

There is a great post on trends {here} if you're interested in what was hot in 2011 and what some style-makers feel is here to stay for 2012.

Wintry white bedding

Although we haven't seen snow yet in our neck of the woods, nothing says December like curling up with a book in bed and a soft blanket of snow falling outside.

We wanted to share a few favorite bedrooms with wintry white linens.  Which look is your favorite?  Leave us a comment!
