Well we bought it now we had to figure out what to do with it...
We hired a contractor to get us started, but we felt like we needed a few guys on "our team". So we went to a local guy who restored log cabins and asked if he had anyone available. Luckily he was in between restoration jobs and told us he had a few guys that could come work for us.
The gods were smiling on us because one of them was none other then our Henry May.
Henry has been with us pretty much before day one. As all of our customers know, Henry is 100 percent an invaluable part of the Lucketts crew. There isn't an inch of this place that Henry hasn't patched, painted or replaced. He has assisted thousands of customers at the store, between repairing, painting, loading, advising, and storytelling, he's done it all.
Now it's time for us to celebrate Henry May. March 11 will be his sweet 60th birthday and there is no one card or cake that can begin to express our appreciation for him... So we are asking you to respond to this blog post with your Henry-isms and birthday wishes for our very amazing friend.
In April we will be selling Mayhem 2012 t-shirts, which will double as an invitation to a cookout the Friday night of May Design House.
We love you Henry! Happy sweet 60th!
This past Sunday, Heather needed to plug an ancient desk lamp in to a socket to see if it worked for a customer {old lamps really should be rewired instead}. Since the Lucketts building is over a hundred years old and the lamp looked like it came from the Edison era, Heather was worried. "Henry, you know I wouldn't ask for your help unless I really needed it. Would you mind plugging this lamp in in case I might get electrocuted?" Wait, did she really just say that? "Sure, I'll test it out for you. Be sure you stand back" Henry said. Still shocked, I asked Henry if he minded Heather just risked his life for a lamp. "Nah. Have you ever been electrocuted before? It just tickles. Don't worry about it." Henry said.
ReplyDeleteSo, did the woman buy the lamp?
DeleteHa ha, no she actually didn't get it.

If you've been to Lucketts, you seen Henry, he's everywhere! We bought a HUGE iron arch to use at our daughter's wedding. It was the busy spring market weekend. We weren't really sure we could even get it in our SUV, but of course Henry took care of us. He took the arch apart, put all the screws in a bag, got the arch in our vehicle and tied it all down securely. And yes we made it home safely and the arch was the perfect backdrop for a lovely day. It will be cherished for many years to come! ... Thanks so much Henry! Happy birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteHenry is truly a genuine person inside and out. Henry always made a point to talk to me and keep me company when I was unloading my goods to put into my pavillion...oh the good ole days in the pavillion ;-) Always enjoy my hugs when I return to the shop and seeing his smile on his face when he reminisces the story of my daughter, at the age of 3, just couldn't resist a huge mud puddle on the grounds and jumped right into it...Henry thought that was the funniest thing, I on the other did not ;-/.
ReplyDeleteHenry, you are special and Lucketts is so lucky to have you!
Happy Birthday!
Henry thanks so much for all you do. I've appreciated all of your helpfulness, knowledge and smiles over the years. Happy 60th!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Henry!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,

Henry helped me get a large teak dining table and the matching 6 large armchairs into and on top of my SUV a couple of years ago. It was pretty clear to me from the get-go that I would have to leave 2-3 of the chairs behind and come back later for them, but Henry refused to give up, and refused to let those tied on top wriggle one inch, let they be a driving danger. Don't you know I drove away with the entire set, and had a lovely time talking to Henry for the full 30 minutes or so it took get everything squeezed in and tied down. What a gem. Happy birthday, Henry!
