Last Design house 'til Groundhog...

It has been a wondrous year at Lucketts and the Design House, and we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for being such awesome customers.

This week we will have our final design house of the year (Dec. 6,7&8)…so to celebrate the season, say thanks to our customers, and just to straight up rock the house, all of our remaining Holiday items will be reduced by 50%, and we’ll be doing select markdowns on furniture.

There are still loads of adorable Holiday items, from ornaments to candles and garlands, gift wrap and ribbons…We also have some great gift ideas that just came in……the house is packed with fun stuff. We can’t wait to see you this weekend, Happy Holidays and thank you for a wonderful year!

Love

The Online Holiday Collection is here!

We've been searching high and low to find items we love.  We have many of these in our Holiday Design House, but they will sell out, so we've held a few aside for our online customers!

We just love our signature wreath that we used in our advertising for the Holiday Open House this year.  It's knit on styrofoam base with a pretty burlap ribbon accent.

Behind the scenes....the Holiday Open House

Every year as we wrap up our Holiday season, we wonder how we can  possibly top what we've just done...how can we  find cuter ornaments, how can we come up with any better ideas for next year...no way...it's going to be impossible!

Then we go to Atlanta for our major January shopping trip, where all of  next season's themes are figured out.... the blood starts flowing...the ideas start coming, and the cute stuff starts appearing before our eyes and Voila! We know it's going to be another killer Holiday Design House.

I thought it might be fun to give a little insight into what goes into creating the house and let you know how its coming along.

This year we bumped our opening back a week because its almost a nervous breakdown trying to take apart the October Design House and take it to the level of our Holiday open house in three weeks. As it stands, our families are not fed and no laundry gets done at home until this puppy is done.

As we have mentioned in previous posts, the ornaments, garlands, and such are all purchased in January.  Amy and I also start purchasing vintage auction finds, sleds, skates, tobaggens, skis all throughout the year and stow them away for this event. The boxes start trickling in in July. Kim and Diana try to keep up with the unwrapping and pricing during the summer as they know all too well that its like a slow moving freight train that's coming straight at them with delivery after delivery after delivery.

Next when it becomes apparent that the freight train is winning we bring in the high school recruits all lined along long tables, laughing, eating and pricing Christmas bears, balls garlands....

Meanwhile Amy is formulating her game plan and themes for all of the rooms. She starts assessing her color palettes to see what tones work  well together, what walls need to be painted, what antique elements need to be brought in and what other layers she will need to complete the look.

Some rooms are no brainers like "letters to Santa"...we found a killer life sized Santa who sits at a desk and gorgeous ribbons with letters to Santa printed on them....soooo cute.

Once everything is set, furniture, trees, lighting, the ornaments start coming into the house...once they start rolling in Amy personally styles each and every room.( because she is ridiculously good at it!) ..it will take her one full day per room...which is two weeks!

Holy Crap Batman!!! right about now we have a come to Jesus meeting and she delegates out the spaces she will not be able to get to...such as the barn, , front porch, bathroom, outdoor areas...and we start to figure out how to get these areas up to par with the beautiful house.

This year we will be hosting 60 extra vendors that will stretch from Lucketts Store on over to the Design House so that should make all of this even more awesome than usual.

We hope you'll come visit us November 8-9-10  10 to 5
see ya then!

Past Holiday Open Houses

As we were looking working on the ads for this year's Lucketts Holiday Open House, we were going through TONS of old photos of the house and shop.

We wanted to share with you some old photos 1) so you know what to expect during our open house on Nov. 8-9-10, and 2) so we can recycle these images that were long buried.

This year, we are having an outdoor winter market with 60 additional vendors outside so the 14 acres surrounding the shop will have additional tents with holiday and winter-themed merchandise outside.

Here are some pics from past years, enjoy!

Holiday Open House Sneak Peek

Here are a few shots from around the Design House over the last few days.

We're busy prepping for the Nov. 8, 9, & 10 Holiday Open House.

Still lots to unpack and Suzanne just went to auction Sunday and scored another trailer load full of fun!

We got a delivery of doors, shutters and windows on Friday.  The boys were stacking them against the barns so Amy can take a look and see which ones are going where in The Design House.  We moved some over to the shop's porch too.

Our themes this year are developing.  So far, our rooms have naturally morphed in to some great themes...

Building the perfect fall pantry

I absolutely love the smells of fall, rich damp black soil, warm fires burning, fresh picked apples, earthy fallen leaves and the crisp cool air. Could it just stay fall and skip winter, please.

Autumn is romantic and calm. It is my time to prepare for hibernation. I just switched my summer and winter clothes along with the cleaning & organizing of closets. I washed all my windows inside and out. Entertaining moves inside, I enjoy rearranging the furniture to make the rooms cozy and inviting.

Most importantly don't forget the kitchen, this sounds crazy but it is time to clean, arrange and stock up your pantry. The winter is the busiest time of the year in most kitchens.

My workshop with Amy Howard

Hey everyone!  I'm taking a quick break from prep for The Design House (Oct, 4, 5 & 6) to share a few photos from my awesome workshop with Amy Howard.

Suzy and I met Amy and spent time with her paint line a while back at an interior decorating trade show, but this was three days in a small group learning her philosophy and product line, and practicing her painting techniques.

All I can say is that after 20 years of doing this, I was wowed all over again.  I wanted to share some photos from the workshop and let you know a little more we we're carrying the line in The Old Lucketts Store right now!

We are super-excited to welcome Kathy Wall for next weekend's Design House!

Kathy has been bringing her finds in to our farmhouse throughout September, primping and preening, getting ready for the October 4-5&6 Design House.

We've all been wondering what Kathy is going to whip up.  She's decided on a style she calls mix 'n chic in a girly office. Kathy found a fabulous

It's looking like fall at the shop!

Anne brought in a bunch of pumpkins and gourds of all sorts in to the shop this past week.

There are a bunch of varieties and these are really beautiful.

We just love what Anne is able to do with these gourds and pumpkins.  She has so many great ideas for displays and vignettes for your home.

Here are a few pictures from her space this week

Just so peachy keen

Ever since the first Twinkle Bell dinner when I made the creamy corn polenta, I am obsessed with freshly gristed cornmeal. I have to say it is unbelievable more delicious than just plan store bought. If you have the chance to find it at a farmers market or at a mill it is worth the extra time & effort to track it down.

The recipe I have been using to create all sorts of fruit & cornmeal combinations I found in  "The Best of the Best Food & Wine".

New in the Shop & Online this week

We have several new items in the shop this week, and we're super excited to be carrying Amy Howard at Home One Step Paints.

After visiting a recent home decor show, we saw Amy's booth and fell in love with her story, the color palette of this line, and most importantly the quality & price point of this paint line.

We just got a new shipment of paints in late this week, and we also have several other new finds for you to see this weekend!

Lucketts before and afters, part 2

In an earlier post, we shared some before and after photos of the shop when Suzanne found it.

There was trash, rotten wood, and some enterprising plants and wildlife that had taken up in the old general store.

We found some more photos of the shop during the extensive renovation 17 years ago.  Have fun looking at the before and afters!

Lucketts Look for Less

Just cruising around Pinterest today, and checking out all the great lighting and accessories....  We stumbled on a few photos, and thought, "wait, we HAVE that!"

We found some lighting and really pretty photos from decorators and realized some of our items were inspired by these same looks.  We also saw some lighting from higher end decorating stores, and guess what?  We have something similar for less!

Here are a few goodies we found out there {and we have too!}...

Please Rescue Me

Have you always wanted to try your hand at upholstering a chair?

Maybe you'd like to customize a dresser and bring it back to life with paint.

Some of our customers want to walk in our shop and find a piece already fixed up and prettied up. We also know others of you are big DIYers, looking to do your own rescuing.

That's why we're adding a new Rescue Me section outside the shop to complement our new paint line Amy Howard at Home that should be arriving later this month at the shop.

Goldilocks and the Fall Design House color palette

Amy is obsessed with color.  And she's really, really good at it.

Amy can have conversations about the precise color at the bottom of a glass of iced tea where the tea and water begin to mix (true story).

She can tell you why there are 45 different shades of off-white in the paint store, how they're different, and when and why you would use one over another.

She can also tell you when all the colors in the paint store just won't cut it for the specific light and furnishings in a room.  Enter Amy's custom color for September....a color she's calling Mocha Ya-Ya.

The Lucketts Design House...September progress

Here are a few scenes from The Design House today.

Everyone was chipping in....painting, sorting, rearranging, and unpacking.   Several rooms are getting fresh coats of paint.

And poor Henry...there were gallons upon gallons of new paint everywhere.
