What the...What? (#8)

We have a special phrase around the store when we find things in our travels that are particularly unusual, odd, confusing, or sometimes hideous.  When we come across one of these items, we like to use one of our favorite Lucketts-isms, "What the... What?"  Here is one of those items from the store.

See if you can guess what this is and leave us a comment if you think you know!  We'll reveal the item's true identity and purpose later this week.

Can you identify this item from The Old Lucketts Store and tell us what it was once used for?  We're not so sure ourselves!  The mystery item is about 1 foot high or long.  We're not even sure how to display it.

  1. Holds larger bird seed like sunflower seeds for the beautiful cardinals who love it!

  2. Does it have a door or open? It kind of looks like a suet feeder for birds??

  3. I seems a bit large for a suet feeder. I'd go with something along the lines of crab trap but it's hard to say without seeing the top and bottom

  4. I believe it is a bird feeder. The squirrels can't get at the bird food.

  7. For those asking, the bottom is wood with metal, completely attached. The top is all metal with an opening maybe 3"x2" and a very small handle.

  8. It's a minnow trap/keeper for fishermen to keep live bait while fishing.

  9. My guess is a home-made suet holder (for home-made suet formed in a can) or an insect/butterfly holder.

  10. I'd guess that it's a cricket cage for fishermen.

  11. It is a grasshopper cage! My grandfather used one something like this to store the grasshoppers he used for bait when he went fishing.

  12. I bought this very cage at a local antique store & they said it was a critter cage. I would assume it would be for fishing lures.

  13. I Forgot to mention the cage was a gift for my 2 grandsons who are great critter hunters!
