Where did that come from? - part 2

A few days ago, we featured some items from The Old Lucketts Store and The Design House. 

Today we're featuring a few more items and giving you some behind the scenes details about where they came from.


Here are some items from The Old Lucketts Store and The Lucketts Store Design House, and my {paraphrased} conversations with the dealers about how they "get their stuff."

• What am I looking at?   A chair reupholstered in a coffee bags.
  
• Where did you find this?   The pieces that went in to making this were from estate sales and auctions.
  
• What did it take to make this and get it ready to sell?   The chair was in okay shape when I found it, but it needed some structural repairs. After doing that, I had it reupholstered in coffee bags and added trim detail.  I loved the striking graphics and industrial look of coffee bags and I thought they went well with this chair.  Then I had the piece delivered to The Old Lucketts Store and up to my space.

• What am I looking at?   A three piece wall unit from the 1800's with its original finish.
  
• Where did you find this?   At an estate sale in Maryland.
  
• Why did you pick this up?   I love large wall units. This piece was from the 1800's and still in wonderful shape --- just look at the carved details on the doors.  Sometimes you lose the history of pieces when you buy at auction, but I found out that this cabinet was owned by a prominent judge in Baltimore in the 1800's.

• What am I looking at?   Vintage books recovered and made in to decorative objects.
  
• Where did you find this?   I actually made them using a ton of items in my fabric and paper stash.
  
• What did it take to make these?   I had some vintage books I liked, but the covers were bleh and no one really wanted them.  I covered them like we did in grade school, except I used old fabrics and kraft paper.  Some of the flowers you see were made from vintage {unopened} packages of gauze I found in an old doctor's bag. I have a big stash of old letters, maps, photos and trims, and I just went wild, gluing everything in to place.

• What am I looking at?   An antique frame {and Henry}.
  
• Where did you find this?   At an auction.
  
• Why did you pick this up?   I always snap up large wood frames when I see them and the price was right.  People are always looking to do something with them.  This gold piece was in great condition and I could see it framing an oil painting, putting it as-is on a wall, or going home with a creative person who had an idea for a DIY project.

• What am I looking at?   A metal and wood slat bed frame from our Design House.
  
• Where did you find this?   At an interior design trade show.
  
• Why did you pick this up?   This piece is very unusual and was something we hadn't seen before. The bed is made in America which is rare now. We really liked the quality of the piece and the company that makes these. The bed really makes a statement and we had a lot of wow comments when this debuted last fall in our room decorated with modern accents at The Design House.

• What am I looking at?   Vintage fabrics and lace.
  
• Where did you find this?   At outdoor flea markets in Germany.  I have family in Germany and visit often. I have some great relationships with vendors at many of the markets around Berlin, and many vendors will hold items for me that they know I'll want.  I then ship them back to the United States.
• Why did you pick this up?    I adore vintage lace and fabrics.  These German kitchen towels are great quality and they're original - not reproductions.  The lace pieces are so intricate and I'm really inspired by things that are made by hand.

As you can see, over these two posts, we've just scratched the surface of what's available at The Old Lucketts Store and The Design House.  When customers ask us where we get things, the answer is so difficult to answer --- items come from all over the country {even the world} and sometimes they're even handmade.
