In an earlier post, we shared some before and after photos of the shop when Suzanne found it. 

There was trash, rotten wood, and some enterprising plants and wildlife that had taken up in the old general store.

We found some more photos of the shop during the extensive renovation 17 years ago.  Have fun looking at the before and afters!

Lucketts welcomes FOUNDRY to our Leesburg store!

The Old Lucketts Store is pleased to announce that we have filled our vacant space on the third floor!  We would like to welcome Yvette Freeman, owner of FOUNDRY.

Over the last few weeks, Suzanne interviewed several talented artists and designers.  She was thoroughly impressed.  When Suzanne met Yvette though, she knew she'd found a kindred spirit and the perfect fit for the space upstairs.

It's time to meet Jenny and her husband Vassillis from The Fickle Flea on the second floor of The Old Lucketts Store!

Jenny always brings us fun treasures, from old phones & typewriters, books & records, furniture, trunks & luggage, pottery, you name it.  If it's colorful and fun, she probably has it up on the second floor of the shop!

Who's Who...Meet Ann of Wild Thyme

Meet our favorite vintage clothing dealer, Ann of Wild Thyme!  Ann is known for her beautiful clothing, accessories & hats.  Here is a little bit more about Ann.

Wild Thyme is my retirement business, something I began after completing a career in teaching and youth services, but my interest in vintage clothing and antique textiles, like me, has been around a long time.

I began wearing vintage when I was in college in the 1960’s – Victorian petticoats, 1930’s men’s suit vests. I loved combining styles and eras to find my own look. In the late 70’s I lived in Amsterdam for a short while and spent many happy hours in flea markets there and in Paris. I came home with my suitcases full of old lace and vintage bits and pieces…over 30 years later I am still doing the same thing!

Get to know Twig House

When Pat's many customers think of Twig House, they think of Vienna, Virginia. That's because she had a shop on Maple Avenue in Vienna for over 18 years. Last year she gave that shop up and now sells exclusively at the Old Lucketts Store.  Pat's been a dealer at Lucketts for many years, but now it is her full time endeavor - and we are all grateful for that!

The Old Lucketts store is such an unusual place to shop for home and garden furnishings, with many styles and design options available. Pat said she hopes Twig House has added something to the range of wonderful things you can find and is very grateful to be part of the Old Lucketts Store.

Pat keeps up with what is hot with today's design trends but also loves classics that have staying power. Some of the items Pat always tries to have available are mirrors, original artwork, great objects, architectural items, and furniture. Some of these items can be antiques but she also likes quality newer items as well.

Just What is The Design House?

We're often asked what the Design House is, when it's open, and how it's different from The Old Lucketts Store.  Look no further, here are your answers!

Here's the difference:  The Old Lucketts Store is a widely celebrated multi-dealer antiques and vintage store at 42350 Lucketts Road in Leesburg, VA, in operation for 15+ years.  Think of the Design House is an interior design showcase, or "special event house."  At the Design House, we bring together the greatest design talents from The Old Lucketts Store who completely remake an entire farmhouse for each event, from lighting to furniture, to paint, and accessories.  

Each room in the Design House is fully decorated as it was intended; a bedroom is a bedroom, the living room is decorated as a living room.  Our fully decorated rooms give you great suggestions for how to incorporate new and vintage items in a home setting, and we give you new ideas for using antiques in your space that may surprise you.  And here's the best part...everything is for sale and you can take it home with you that day!

The Design House is open only on the dates listed in our special events calendar.  You can find these events and our special sales on the Events Calendar on our website.  The Design House is located on the same property as The Old Lucketts Store, at the other end of the parking lot past the barn breezeway.  We post sneak peek photos of the house regularly on our website.

It's always fresh and new at each monthly event so save-the-dates on your calendar and, as we like to say, "Grab your girlfriends, bring the trailer, and make a day of it!"

The rooms they are a changin' - part 2

Earlier this week, I posted a little on Pete, who moved on down from the third floor to his new home, the lobby of the Old Lucketts Store.  To learn more about his industrial finds, click here.

When Pete moved, we had a vacant room upstairs, so Marian of Mustard Seed Interiors moved her items from her pavilion upstairs in the main building.  Marian specializes in refurbished and refinished furniture.  Her popular painting techniques give her pieces a worn Frenchy look.  Look for Marian (dealer code MSI) on the third floor of the shop.

So, we are a little exhausted with all of the room-swapping earlier this month, but we have some really great people and items ready for you to discover.  Please visit the shop and look for the dealers featured in these posts - Pete (PJM), Marian (MSI), and Kim (GH), and don't forget about our August Design House on the 5, 6 & 7th.

July marked some changes around the shop.  We did some dealer reshuffling to fill in where our friend Ted used to have space on the first floor.

We'd like to extend a warm welcome to Pete who ventured down from the third floor (yes we have three floors in the shop!) to the first floor lobby.  When I think of Pete, a few words come to mind - industrial, utilitarian, and texture-texture-texture.  Pete's treasures have a decidedly masculine sensibility (think metal, burlap, woods, and canvas).  Around the shop, we like to say that Pete's finds are the most Anthropologie-like, but without the huge price tags.

Utilitarian made beautiful.  Many of Pete's items had past lives in industrial spaces, like these numbered wire baskets.

Looking for texture?  How about an antique French wine jug with a knotted rope covering, a terracotta architectural remnant with chippy paint, a stenciled wool pillow, or vines made into an abstract object?

If you're looking for something industrial with lots of texture, please visit Pete's spaces (dealer code PJM) on the first floor in the lobby and in his pavilion outside.  I will post pictures of the other two spaces that have been shuffled --- Marian, of Mustard Seed Interiors, back filled Pete's space on the third floor, and Kim, who used to share a space with Lisa, back filled Marian's space.  If you can keep all that straight, you're a better person than I am; it will be so much easier to explain in pictures later this week : )   ...okay, okay, back to more Pete...

These are items Pete has had in the last few months.  They are gone, but represent his aesthetic. (l-r) Wooden wine rack, antique mill stone, over-sized mirrors trimmed in tin remnants, delicate wire tree branches, canvas laundry bin, and metal industrial shelf with bins.

Our Newest Addition

The Old Lucketts Store would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest addition, Ms. Marian Parsons, from Mustard Seed Interiors!   Marian has endless talent and we are so very proud to welcome her into our family.  

Marian's history with our shop goes all the way back to when she was in middle school (yikes! are we dating ourselves?).  She later became an avid shopper about twelve years ago when she first discovered her love for antiques.  Marian drove by the Old Lucketts Store several times and the lure of all of the amazing pieces visible from Route 15 was finally too great to resist. 

Marian is truly an artist.  She is a self-proclaimed Jill-of-all-trades, but specializes in painted furniture, hand painted signs (made to look antique), and slipcovers/reupholstery.  She likes to put her stamp on almost everything she sells, so when people see a piece, they know it’s hers.  I asked Marian what she thought she brings to the shop that is unique and fresh.  She felt that her signs were the clear stand out ---- she custom designs and hand paints each one on antique doors and wood and adds antique hardware for an authentic look.

Marian loves  thrifting, antiquing, going to auctions, and all things DIY and home décor.  Marian said that she loves her job because "with this business, I don’t have to worry about having the right place for something I find.  I enjoy the freedom in creating pieces to sell.  It doesn't have to match anything in my home.  I can just create whatever is in my head."   She also enjoys reminding her husband to stop at yard sales, because after all, it's her job!

Of all her pieces, Marian is most proud of her Union Jack Dresser and upholstered French chair.  I can attest firsthand to the splash her dresser made back in February.  We took a picture of the dresser, posted it on our Fresh off the Wagon page, and within a few hours it was sold.  We received so many compliments and questions about it the entire Groundhog Day sale weekend. 



Marian is “over-the-moon excited” about having her new space at Lucketts.  She said that she’s loved the shop for so long and it’s an honor to be among the ranks of such talented and creative designers, antique dealers, and artists.  This year, she is also looking forward to the continued growth of her blog, and any opportunities that may come out of that. 

We are truly excited to have Marian at the shop, and wish her continued success.  Welcome to Lucketts, Marian, we are honored to have you!

Owner, The Old Lucketts Store

Meet Suzanne, the owner of our little empire!  Suzanne and her husband Pat started The Old Lucketts Store fifteen years ago when they purchased our building, which at the time was a dilapidated run-down wreck.  They had a vision, though, and started the renovations even though many said they should just tear it down.  It had been a store and post office for over a century, with the oldest part being built just after the Civil War.  A huge addition was added around 1900, and the Lucketts family inhabited the top two floors until the 1950's or 60's. It had been vacant for a decade when Sooz and Pat purchased the property.  Wisteria branches wound their way all through it and there were layers of trash and debris several feet thick which Sooz and her best bud, Amy, carted all out by hand. 

Once the work was finished, Suzanne (who was nine months pregnant at the time!) opened the shop with about 30 dealers.  The business has been growing ever since through a combination of hard, hard work and her innate business sense.  A reporter once called Suzanne  a "supernova", and that's probably my favorite description of her.  She has endless energy and enthusiasm, is extremely generous, and is above all hard-working. Her drive comes from her passion for the unusual, the fun, the funky, ... and always wanting to do her best.   We love her to bits, and I am so proud to call her my friend <3
