Here are a few of our favorite tips to help make the most of your windows.

To make your windows seem larger than they actually are and to bring more light in to the room, use a longer rod and push the draperies to the sides so they are just touching the window trim. You can also put the rod several inches higher than you normally would to make the ceilings seem higher --- counter-intuitive, but it works!

We love the idea of repurposing vintage doorknobs as curtain tiebacks.

Here is a great option if you have a two story space with lots of windows. The extra long curtains can help to ground and define the room.

If you're using a very bold pattern in a room, you may want to go with solid curtains so the patterns don't compete. The reverse is also true; if you have a bright room with no major patterns, curtains are a great way to bring in a bold pattern.

Thanks for stopping by today! As a reminder, we have a sale going on in our Online Store, Shop Lucketts. We've also marked down our favorite Design House curtain panels --- but they'll only be on sale until this Saturday, August 11th.
Great blog, beautiful photos and very helpful. I'm changing my curtains so now I'll know what I'm doing. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWe have original molding in our 120 year old home that I don't want to cover. Where should I hang my curtains?
ReplyDeleteI suggest hanging them just below the molding - with a little space between the two. You must show off that molding!
DeleteDepending on the room & weight of the draperies / sheers / etc., and how much privacy you need, you can mount them INSIDE the window using a tension rod. Another option would be to mount several inches higher & wider than the window so when the curtains are open, you get to see the entire frame-woodwork and all, but still have the option to close them for privacy if needed.
DeleteGreat tips...I always hang mine up high and out to the sides, as far as I can go.

Linda
